Registered Veterinary Technician- Treatment Floor

ABOUT NOVEL

Novel believes that the world would be a better place if all pets were cared for, unconditionally. In order to accomplish this, veterinary medicine needs to be made more accessible for all.

Novel is creating a new standard of accessible veterinary medicine through our technician-led approach. This proprietary (indeed, novel) way of operating allows us to increase our veterinary output without compromising on the quality of medicine or appointment duration. Our operators are all owners, creating an aligned long-term interest between corporate and patient interest.

We are committed to being with the pet owner throughout every chapter of their pet health story, and we appreciate your interest in learning more about how we accomplish this effectively and accessibly.

ELEVATING OUR TECHNICIANS

Novel believes that registered veterinary technicians (RVTs) are being underutilized. As a result of this underutilization, veterinarians (DVMs) shoulder undue burden, which, at times, is hurting professional satisfaction and mental wellbeing.

At Novel, RVTs operate all wellness and minor illness concerns. They are trained to assess the patient, facilitate a proposed treatment plan, and transfer the patient to the treatment area for the DVM to modify or confirm the RVTs evaluation. The client is able to watch as the patient is transferred and assessed by the veterinarian through floor-to-ceiling windows, however the RVT is managing the entirety of the client relationship.

We believe that fully leveraging the talent of RVTs is the key to unlocking more value in veterinary medicine. This allows us to offer radical pricing (i.e.: no exam fees), creating more accessible veterinary medicine for everyone. It also facilitates the ability for the veterinarian to focus solely on what veterinarians were trained to do.

The Role: RVT – Treatment Floor

This role is centered in the heart of the hospital's treatment area, supporting medical workflows, patient care, and team efficiency across departments.

You will work closely with the medical team and the broader care team to ensure patients receive high-quality, compassionate, and efficient treatment throughout their stay.

What You’ll Do
  • Deliver high-quality, hands-on patient care including treatments, monitoring, and recovery

  • Support post-operative surgical patients to ensure safe and thorough recovery

  • Execute treatment plans with accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail

  • Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, and advanced diagnostic sample collection

  • Maintain clear, thorough, and accurate medical records

  • Monitor hospitalized patients and proactively communicate updates to the clinical team

  • Support urgent and emergent cases with a calm, efficient approach

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked treatment area

  • Collaborate with CSR and exam room teams to support seamless patient flow

  • Manage and complete clinical tasks, including treatments and client callbacks

As a team member, the Treatment Floor RVT embodies exceptional verbal communication skills. They understand the importance of conveying their medical authority with equal parts competence and compassion, and are empathetic to the unique complexities pet owners face when determining the extent to which they can provide care for their pet at any given time.

Finally, as an RVT, the right candidate contributes to the establishment of our culture. They are excited by the prospect of building a brand - not just a clinic - and have a flexible, willing approach to their professional contributions. They are possibly interested in supporting the growth of the business, including policy and protocol development, training of staff, strategic planning initiatives, and more.

In addition to the aforementioned attributes, the candidate must hold a valid RVT diploma and a license to practice in Ontario. Given the nature of this role, we believe that a minimum of five years of working experience is required (but don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re a superstar!).
